Wonder if Christian Evangelicals Enjoy Being Made GOP Fools?
A. Alexander, September 23rd, 2006

"There are two simple undeniable truths about today's America that most people haven't figured out. Government of, for, and by the people is dead. Instead it is government of, for, and by corporations. The other truth is that Republicans have used, and continue to use Evangelical Christian votes as the means of maintaining their government of, for, and by corporations. Look at the way Republicans run campaigns and govern. At no time do they address real issues confronting the average citizen.

Their campaigns only address knee-jerk emotional social issues like abortion and gay marriage. Republicans use these issues in a despicably cynical manner in order to con America's Evangelical Christians into voting for them, and then they govern solely for the benefit of corporations.

Recent elections have been all about Republicans manipulating the Evangelical Christian community. The GOP promises these poor misguided souls everything short of burning "sinners" at the stake and then delivers nothing. Republicans have claimed for decades now, that they want to ban abortion. Yet, the moment South Dakota bans the procedure, the RNC's chairman refuses to comment on the issue. And where is the usual Republican election-year anti-abortion platform in 2006? Nowhere to be found!

Then there are the famous Republican tax-cuts. Republicans have cut taxes, but who benefited from those cuts? Not their rank-and-file Evangelical Christian members. The wealthiest Americans and corporations were given the bulk of the tax-cuts. Republicans managed to find the time to pass legislation that cut taxes for big oil, to protect the credit industry, lighten the burden on mining corporations, and a laundry list of other actions directed at leading corporate interests...but they haven't had time to pass any legislation wanted by their Evangelical Christian base. Hmmm...wonder how that can be?

All the years Republicans have been in power, and all they've given to their Christian base are a few judges. Judges who've been sold as being sympathetic to the Evangelical cause, but in reality serve only corporate interests. The Supreme Court continues to rule against the interests of the Republican base, but it is always blamed on the other "liberal" judges. Interesting how that always happens, especially when the court is stacked now with Bush appointees. Those same judges, however, never fail to uphold corporate agendas. Hmmm...wonder how that can be?

This is government of, for, and by corporations. Evangelical votes are simply the means to Republican ends. When one thinks about the situation it is quite ironic. The Republicans have made personal whores out of millions of American Evangelical Christians. James Dobson, Tim Lahaye, Jerry Falwell, and their followers are all nothing more than Republican Party whores. They sell their souls for the pimp party's promise of forever unfulfilled promises. Wonder if the Evangelical Christians will ever figure it out, or maybe they simply enjoy getting screwed and made the fool?"

From the Chicago SunTimes:

Testing for HIV should be a routine part of doctor appointments and emergency-room visits for all patients between ages 13 and 64, according to new federal guidelines designed to identify AIDS patients before they develop life-threatening symptoms. The policy may be difficult to implement, especially in Illinois, where the law sets tight standards for how doctors must obtain consent for HIV tests and how they can inform patients of the results.

Supporters of the new recommendations, released Thursday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said more widespread testing would improve care for the estimated 250,000 Americans who don't know they're infected. It also could help reduce the spread of the disease by up to 30 percent, since studies show that carriers of HIV cut back on high-risk behavior, such as unprotected sex, once they learn of the infection.

more:

In essence, the non-binding guidelines would have health-care providers test for HIV much as they already screen routinely for conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Bill O'Reilly goes on the attack

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Danny Schechter:

Think of it this way. You are a former cold warrior who spent your youth studying every aspect of the old Soviet Union. Even though you hated their policies publicly, you began privately, first grudgingly and then, with time, enthusiastically, admire the way they operated.
They were so organized and adept at imposing their agenda with top-down control. They were, in words used at the time, "masters of deception" and pursued secretive strategies of infiltrating ideologues and mole-like operatives -- known as apparatchiks -- into government agencies and military organs.

Their KGB danced circles around our CIA and when their often-innocent "suspects" were interrogated, they were tortured with no restraints. The KGB made sure of that.

Now the CIA does our dirty work and the President is crusading to lift any and all restraints from their extreme electrode units. They killed their anti-communist "enemies" outright after convicting them in kangaroo courts. We just detain ours indefinitely while demonizing them as terrorists beyond the protection of the law.

Their Party imposed "message control" and ran media with carrots and sticks. Our Republican Guard uses perception management techniques to achieve the same results.

Qualifications to work in Iraq? What's your view on Roe V. Wade?

After the fall of Saddam Hussein's government in April 2003, the opportunity to participate in the U.S.-led effort to reconstruct Iraq attracted all manner of Americans -- restless professionals, Arabic-speaking academics, development specialists and war-zone adventurers. But before they could go to Baghdad, they had to get past Jim O'Beirne's office in the Pentagon.

To pass muster with O'Beirne, a political appointee who screens prospective political appointees for Defense Department posts, applicants didn't need to be experts in the Middle East or in post-conflict reconstruction. What seemed most important was loyalty to the Bush administration.

O'Beirne's staff posed blunt questions to some candidates about domestic politics: Did you vote for George W. Bush in 2000? Do you support the way the president is fighting the war on terror? Two people who sought jobs with the U.S. occupation authority said they were even asked their views on Roe v. Wade .

Death and Tears from Nablus

from counterpunch:

While war raged in Lebanon throughout the month of July and death was a daily occurrence in Gaza, other regions in this war-torn part of the world also experienced weeks of torment and torture at the hands of the Israeli Military.

Among these regions is Nablus. A city filled with tragedy and the knowledge of how unjust and unforgiving the occupational forces can be. Invasions, incursions and curfews are not new to the people of Nablus, nor are the sights of bleeding children and mourning families.

Many people say if you want to know the Occupation of the West Bank and what it actually entails then you must go to Nablus and spend some days wandering in the Old City and surrounding districts talking to residents, nearly every one of whom have lost members of their family in the decade-long struggle against Occupation; you need to talk to the students of An Najar University and listen to their stories of suffering and how many difficulties they must overcome if they want to continue their education; you must let the sorrow of the city soak into your unconsciousness.

Greg Palast Video: Killing the culture in New Orleans

Greg Palast's being charged by the Deparment of Homeland Security for this Video-report. Folks, this is the new America. The America of Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez and Chertoff.

More on Greg Palast

It's true. It's weird. It's nuts. The Department of Homeland Security, after a five-year hunt for Osama, has finally brought charges against … Greg Palast. I kid you not. Send your cakes with files to the Air America wing at Guantanamo. Though not just yet. Fatherland Security has informed me that television producer Matt Pascarella and I have been charged with unauthorized filming of a "critical national security structure" in Louisiana.

On August 22, for LinkTV and Democracy Now! we videotaped the thousands of Katrina evacuees still held behind a barbed wire in a trailer park encampment a hundred miles from New Orleans. It's been a year since the hurricane and 73,000 POW's (Prisoners of W) are still in this aluminum ghetto in the middle of nowhere. One resident, Pamela Lewis said, “It is a prison set-up" -- except there are no home furloughs for these inmates because they no longer have homes.

To give a sense of the full flavor and smell of the place, we wanted to show that this human parking lot, with kids and elderly, is nearly adjacent to the Exxon Oil refinery, the nation's second largest, a chemical-belching behemoth. So we filmed it. Without Big Brother's authorization. Uh, oh. Apparently, the broadcast of these stinking smokestacks tipped off Osama that, if his assassins pose as poor Black folk, they can get a cramped Airstream right next to a "critical infrastructure" asset.

Blockbuster this movie

I just saw this movie Yesterday, about an African woman who contracts the HIV virus from her husband. Knowing she's received a death sentence, she focuses the energy she has left on seeing her child go to school. A great movie which could give you a perspective of what women go through in Africa. After you see it, go and make a difference for the powerless in the world.

George Lakoff: Drop the "War" metaphor

"....Instead, a war metaphor was chosen: the “War on Terror.” Literal — not metaphorical — wars are conducted against armies of other nations. They end when the armies are defeated militarily and a peace treaty is signed. Terror is an emotional state. It is in us. It is not an army. And you can’t defeat it militarily and you can’t sign a peace treaty with it"

More from the article:

"Domestically, the “War on Terror” has been a major success for the radical right. Bush has been returned to office and the radical right controls all branches of our government. They are realizing their goals. Social programs are being gutted. Deregulation and privatization are thriving. Even highways are being privatized. Taxpayers’ money is being transferred to the ultra-rich making them richer. Two right-wing justices have been appointed to the Supreme Court and right-wing judges are taking over courts all over America. The environment continues to be plundered. Domestic surveillance is in place. Corporate profits have doubled while wage levels have declined. Oil profits are astronomical. And the radical rights social agenda is taking hold. The “culture war” is being won on many fronts. And it is still widely accepted that we are fighting a “War on Terror.” The metaphor is still in place. We are still taking off our shoes at the airports, and now we cannot take bottled water on the planes. Terror is being propped up. "

Howard Zinn: War's terrorism

"Beyond the futility of armed force, and ultimately more important, is the fact that war in our time inevitably results in the indiscriminate killing of large numbers of people. To put it more bluntly, war is terrorism. That is why a "war on terrorism" is a contradiction in terms. Wars waged by nations, whether by the United States or Israel, are a hundred times more deadly for innocent people than the attacks by terrorists, vicious as they are."

U.S Tax payers paid for Halliburton Super Bowl Party

WASHINGTON — Halliburton Co. executives ordered a big-screen television and 10 large tubs of tacos, chicken wings and cheese sticks delivered to Iraq for last year's Super Bowl, then billed U.S. taxpayers for their party, according to a lawsuit unsealed Friday.

The only thing that's missing to make things livelier are the hookers!

More from the Halliburton looting of America's wallet:

"The Houston-based company also defrauded the government by double- and triple-billing for Internet, food and gym services for soldiers, according to the lawsuit by a former employee for KBR, the Halliburton subsidiary that runs dining halls for troops in Iraq."

Norman Solomon on the how the media spins the war

Norman Solomon has a must read article on how the media keeps spinning the troop level in Iraq.

"As I noted in my book War Made Easy, which came off the press nearly 18 months ago, "Hedge words were plentiful: 'the most' that could be hoped for was that 'some kind' of elected Iraqi government would 'eventually emerge,' at which time the United States 'could conceivably' manage to 'reduce' its troop level in Iraq 'significantly,' although even that vague hope necessitated a commitment of 'at least several more months' of Americans killing and dying. But in several more months, predictably, there would still be no end in sight -- just another blank check for more 'blood and treasure,' on the installment plan."

More.

"President Bush keeps demanding those blank checks, and Congress keeps cutting them. What Martin Luther King Jr. called "the madness of militarism" provides ample justifications. For Bush, one of them involves couching the choices ahead in military terms -- to be best judged by military leaders. This is, in essence, an effort to short-circuit democracy."

More.

"Civilian control of the military means that the president is accountable to citizens, not generals. But -- despite the growing opposition to the Iraq war, as reflected in national opinion polls -- the president fervently declares his commitment to the U.S. war effort. Rather than directly proclaim that he will ignore public opinion, Bush prefers to shift the discussion from domestic political accountability to ostensible military necessity."

"That's where the it's-up-to-the-generals gambit comes in. As soon as the question is re-framed around what multi-star generals say, a closed loop turns into a tightening noose. And a fraud. After all, until the moment of retirement, the generals are in a chain of command -- with the president, as commander in chief, at the top."

Why is google creating a govt. spying software?

"The idea appeared in Technology Review citing Peter Norvig, director of research at Google, who says these ideas will show up eventually in real Google products - sooner rather than later.

The idea is to use the existing PC microphone to listen to whatever is heard in the background, be it music, your phone going off or the TV turned down. The PC then identifies it, using fingerprinting, and then shows you relevant content, whether that's adverts or search results, or a chat room on the subject.

And, of course, we wouldn’t put it past Google to store that information away, along with the search terms it keeps that you've used, and the web pages you have visited, to help it create a personalised profile that feeds you just the right kind of adverts/content. And given that it is trying to develop alternative approaches to TV advertising, it could go the extra step and help send "content relevant" advertising to your TV as well."

We're soon to become a Police State; a police state that will make Oceania look like child's play.

Remember them black terrorist from Miami?

Even the mainstream media is questioning the official goverment story.

From the Washington Post story:

What Batiste did not know was that the bin Laden representative was really an FBI informant. The warehouse in which they were meeting had been rented and wired for sound and video by bureau agents, who were monitoring his every word.

Within a month, Batiste, 32, and six of his compatriots were arrested and charged with conspiracy to aid a terrorist organization and bomb a federal building. On June 23, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales held a news conference to announce the destruction of a terrorist cell inside the United States, hailing "our commitment to preventing terrorism through energetic law enforcement efforts aimed at detecting and thwarting terrorist acts."

But court records released since then suggest that what Gonzales described as a "deadly plot" was virtually the pipe dream of a few men with almost no ability to pull it off on their own. The suspects have raised questions in court about the FBI informants' role in keeping the plan alive.

Sure, Gonzalez, you're trying to prevent terrorism, the only problem is that your informant was the main instigator on the whole plot. Now, dont be mistaken, the boys from Miami did sounded somewhat like wackos, but that, a terrorist doesnt make.

" But lawyers for the defendants have raised questions about where a government sting ends and entrapment begins. Not only did government informants provide money and a meeting place for Batiste and his followers, but they also gave them video cameras for conducting surveillance, as well as cellphones, and suggested that their first target be a Miami FBI office, court records show."

In other words, the goverment provided them with everything that'd otherwise lead them to committ acts of terrorism. Gonzalez and company truly think that we're idiots. How else are we to explain the gaffle that they pass as security?

ATT gets big contract from the govt.

according to yahoo ATT's getting a bit time contract from the goverment to provide customized telecommunications and data services to the Hawaii-based military departments (an arm of the Defense Deparment). Perhaps I'm being a bit too cynical, but ATT getting such a big country looks like a payback for the role ATT's played in the illegal spying services courtesy of the Bush regime. With this administration....you just dont know.

Bush: Iraq's not fallen into civil war

from yahoo news:

"Our commanders and diplomats on the ground believe that Iraq has not descended into a civil war," The Decider said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

Right.....because an average of 70 Iraqis killed on a daily basis is not a civil war. i wonder what the decider and his handlers would consider a civil war? Man, the bushies are in denial. Their plans arent going as desired; they encounted a resitance in Iraq that has a backbone to stand up against the empire.

Bush and company are sounding desperate

From the Pittsburgh Gazelle-Post:

There are at least three pieces of falsely based rhetoric that are beginning to emerge in the fall political campaign that need to be put into context now, early in the game.
All three are being put forward by senior U.S. government officials or Republican candidates, notably Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Pennsylvania's own nonresident peddler of nontruths, Sen. Rick Santorum.
The first of these is that any American who does not believe that the United States should stay in Iraq, to pursue President Bush's vanity war to the end and continue to lose young fighting Americans as well as burn up formidable amounts of cash, is somehow not only wrongheaded but also a traitor who does not really love freedom.

Two more reasons NOT to watch CNN

1-Lou Dobbs

2-Wolf Blitzer

From Globar Search
"Move over Bill, Chris, Michelle, Rush, Sean, & Company. Make way for a worthy challenger to the title of leader of the racist rant pack holding court weekday evenings on his hourly show on CNN. Who would have thought back in the days when this well-known cable TV financial news anchor was CNN's executive vice president and then president of the ill-fated CNNfn program he launched that one day he'd switch roles on the network and become the managing editor and anchor of a nightly news program he calls Lou Dobbs Tonight. And who might have guessed this well-thought of financial host would transform himself into a raving racist never letting a program pass without blaming all the country's ills on the poor and desperate people "the color of the earth" south of the border for practically everything going wrong in the country from the fraudulent war on terrorism to the falling dollar."

And the file on Wolf Blitzer

"One other CNN stalwart also deserves mention and considerable scorn. He's longtime CNN reporter and anchor Wolf Blitzer who daily spews a different brand of racism along with the usual mix of US empire-supportive lies, myths, rationalizations and lots more heard all over the corporate media airwaves. Blitzer currently hosts a weekday afternoon program called The Situation Room as well as the Sunday Late Edition talk show. He began his journalism career with Reuters in their Tel Aviv bureau before moving to Washington as White House correspondent for the hard line ultraconservative Jerusalem Post. He's held a number of positions at CNN as military affairs reporter during the Gulf war, White House correspondent and more. What's ignored about Blitzer that should stir controvery is that at one time he was a lobbyist for the powerful American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). That and his one-time connection to the Jerusalem Post are part of his roots making it impossible for Blitzer to be objective reporting on anything about Israel or events in the Middle East. It's easy and probably accurate to see him as AIPAC's on-air man at CNN. It's also no surprise that the preponderance of guests he has on with him share his views which are clearly one-sided and strongly pro-Israel."

Having Blitzer with his own tv show is the equivalent of having Baghdad Bob with his own tv show.
